Car and truck manufacturers are always pursuing lightweight solutions to improve the mileage ratings for their vehicles. This used to mean that fuel tanks, previously constructed of steel, were often manufactured of aluminum. While this hasn't proven to be a problem for the professional welders at Acme, the switch by several companies around 1999 to nylon-based (plastic) fuel tanks for their light and medium duty trucks and vans, has proven to be a problem for the entire industry. The combination of the thick nylon of the tanks and the pressurization of the fuel system, which causes expansion and contraction, makes it impossible for any epoxy currently available to permanently solve a leaking plastic fuel tank.
All is not lost, however, as Acme stocks a line of steel replacement tanks to replace the plastic tanks on both Ford and General Motors pickup trucks and vans. Gasoline & Diesel Fuel
Although our specialties here at Acme Radiator are cooling and air conditioning systems, we also repair diesel fuel and gas tanks, as we’ve done since the doors opened in 1950! As such, we also remove and re-install them in order to make repairs. If your tank is too far gone to perform a proper repair, we can line it internally with Damon Red Kote®. This product is easily the best fuel tank liner made. There are many cheap fuel tank liners out there that don’t withstand the test of time, but Red Kote® doesn’t go bad. We’ve been using this product for decades and can attest to its durability. We also carry multiple lines of new gas and diesel tanks, just in case.

Our gas tank repair work isn’t limited to vehicles with four wheels. We also repair and restore them for motorcycles, as well as ATVs, UTVs and even mopeds. Check out our bike tank coating process here.
We also work on diesel tanks for vehicles with ten wheels (or more)! Check out our
HD commercial truck tank page here.
